The LEGO® Group acquires BrickLink, the world’s largest online LEGO® fan community and marketplace to strengthen ties with adult fans

Acquisition will strengthen the LEGO® Group’s engagement with its growing community of adult fans.

BILLUND, Denmark, November 26, 2019: The LEGO® Group today announced it has acquired BrickLink Ltd (www.bricklink.com), the world’s largest online community of adult LEGO fans from NXMH to strengthen its connection with its important adult fan base.

The BrickLink platform has more than one million members and comprises an online marketplace of more than 10,000 stores from 70 countries; a digital building software where builders can design and showcase their creations; and a vibrant online community where fans share ideas and builds.

The platform was founded in 2000 by Dan Jezek as a way to connect like-minded adult LEGO fans from around the world. It was acquired in 2013 by NXMH, which is owned by Korean entrepreneur Jung-Ju “Jay” Kim. BrickLink is headquartered in Irvine, California.

The LEGO Group CEO, Niels B Christiansen said: “Our adult fans are extremely important to us. They are passionate, committed and endlessly creative. We have worked closely with the community for many years and look forward to deepening our collaboration. We plan to continue to support BrickLink’s active marketplace and evolve the digital studio which allows our talented fans to take their creativity to the next level.”

The LEGO Group’s Chief Marketing Officer, Julia Goldin, said: “BrickLink provides the LEGO Group with a unique opportunity to connect with adult fans through new channels and exciting experiences. We’ve recently collaborated with BrickLink on a range of crowd-sourced sets to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the brick. We learned a lot and are keen to explore more ways of working together to create value. We look forward to collaborating further with our adult fans, while retaining and nurturing the independent spirit of the digital platform.”

The acquisition also includes Sohobricks which makes small batches of building elements.

Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Closing is expected to occur before the end of 2019.

Das fände ich schon mal sehr positiv.

Hier gibt es weitere Infos, u.a. ein Interview mit Julia Goldin (Global Chief Marketing Officer, LEGO Group).

Dass BL verkauft werden soll wurde ja schon länger gemunkelt. Spontan finde ich gut dass LEGO selbst der Käufer ist,
besser als ein anderer aufstrebender Asia-Klemmbaustein-Laden.

Ich habe bei der Meldung erst mal geschaut ob nicht 1. April ist. Ob das jetzt gut oder schlecht ist muss sich erst noch herausstellen. Vielleicht tritt LEGO auch als Anbieter auf, dann könnte man sich das umständliche Teile bestellen bei LEGO sparen.

Da hab ich jetzt spontan auch keine Meinung dazu. Ist das nun gut oder schlecht? Bleibt ab zu warten, wie tief sich LEGO einmischt und auch Themen wie Preise, etc. beeinflusst.
Wird die Software weiter entwickelt... viele, viele Fragen.

Ein Ungleichgewicht der Macht ich spüre, in großer Sorge ich bin

Bin mir da echt grad nicht sicher was ich sagen soll, Bricklink war immer sowas wie das Gegengewicht bei Einzelteilen, wenn das jetzt von Lego kontrolliert wird, hmmm bleibt abzuwarten wie das wird, wie sagt man immer bei uns "kommt nix besseres nach".

Leider fängt es schon an. Habe ein Modell aus Stud.io hochladen wollen. Bringt mir 20 Teile mit nicht vorhandener Bricklinknummer. Habe nix außergewöhnliches drin verbaut im Modell. Alles Nummern und Teile aus Stud.io. Die Nummern mal bei Bricklink von Hand eingegeben. Findet nix. Die Nummern sind Offizielle Parts.

Als erstes fiel mir das berühmte Max-Liebermann-Zitat ein...

Dass es zukünftig dann eben keine BrickArms-Produkte bei Bricklink geben wird - geschenkt, geht mir eh am Hintern vorbei.

ABER:

• Vermutlich auch keine Chromteile und keine Custom Parts mehr (ob wohl auch die Importmöglichkeit für solche Teile nach Stud.io gestrichen wird?)
• "Inoffizielle" Teile, wie auch immer sie den Weg aus der Fabrik gefunden haben mögen, sind wohl auch passé - muss ich mir wohl noch schnell einen größeren Vorrat von meinen geliebten Jumper Plates in Trans-Clear besorgen...
• Die Preise werden garantiert nicht sinken, da "die Firma" zu billig Anbieter zukünftig einfach sperren kann bzw. über die Gebühren dafür sorgt, dass keiner billiger verramscht als TLG selbst

Alles in allem kein guter Tag für AFOLs, fürchte ich.

Ein paar Teile konnte ich herausfinden. Betrifft die Power Function Teile. Es war der Zug Motor, der Empfänger und die Akkubox.

Weitere Teile habe ich noch nicht. Stud.io sagt auch nur 20 Teile sind ohne Bricklinknummer.

Ich bin auch geteilter Meinung, klar finde ich es gut das es nicht irgendein x-beliebiger gekauft hat, andererseits was sind die Konsequenzen
